Park Ranger

£24,242 per annum

Fixed Term Contract – 12 months  

As Park Ranger, you will be part of a frontline team based at Riverside Country Park but working between the two country parks and a variety of woodlands in Medway.

Our Park Rangers have a wide a varied job role, maintaining the public areas within the site through grounds work and repairs and installation of site infrastructure, improving and maintaining a variety of habitats, both parks offer a wild variety of habitats and rare species, conducting surveys as well as producing and delivering an annual events programme and leading educational session for local schools both on and off site.

Alongside the general park maintenance, you will be collaborating with a range of stakeholders, resolving health and safety issues whilst enhancing our valuable green spaces by engaging the local community. 

You will help manage and supervise the activities of contractors on site, and actively promote Medway's parks and open spaces in alignment with Norse Group’s values.

Capstone park - covers an area of 114 hectares and contains a mix of young and mature woodland, meadow/grassland and amenity parkland.

Riverside - covers an area of 100 hectares with a variety of habitats including mudflats, saltmarsh, ponds, reedbeds, grassland and scrub which runs alongside the Medway Estuary.

The Ranger Service also look after 47 woodland sites across Medway

Both Country Parks are Green Flag Award accredited.

What are we looking for from you?

You will be expected to bring a combination of knowledge, experience and skill to the role, highlighted by:

  • A professional qualification in countryside management (or similar subject), or demonstrable relevant experience 
  • Ability to identify key species of flora and fauna and relevant wildlife
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and health & safety guidelines, including environmental management 
  • Experience leading, managing and supervising activities events, educational sessions and working with volunteer groups
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable and confident when dealing with members of the public 
  • Good IT skills
  • Able to work effectively both as an individual and as part of a team
  • Experience in working with landscaping power tools and chainsaw experience and license is an advantage
  • Able to use own initiative and works as part of a team
  • Full driving licence to meet the travel requirements of the role
