Mechanical Engineer

  • Salary of £41,500 depending on experience

Hamson Barron Smith (HBS) is a specialist property and construction consultancy, providing expertise in architecture, surveying, building services engineering and strategic development across a wide range of projects. HBS works with both public and private sector clients and has a growing client base across the UK, operating from various locations.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team taking responsibility for the design, specification and project management of mechanical service installations, including for new builds, maintenance projects and refurbishments.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Producing budget estimates, drawings, detailed service specifications, tender documentation and undertaking full contract administration duties as required
  • Delivering mechanical projects to meet clients briefs and professional standards
  • Scheduling and co-ordinating resources as required to ensure projects are delivered within set timeframes
  • Monitoring the profitability of projects, ensuring they are within budget and providing efficient solutions when required
  • Carrying out condition surveys, dilapidation or specific surveys to provide information for stock condition/asset management system and/or to aid asset appraisal
  • Preparing technical/feasibility reports and valuations, advising on options and providing professional recommendations

Ideal Skills and Experience:

Alongside extensive experience in a similar mechanical engineering role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Professional member of the Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineers and be working or prepared to work towards Chartered status
  • Member of the Engineering Council, HNC/HND or equivalent in an Mechanical Engineering related discipline and current site card or prepared to immediately attain
  • Experience in Mechanical services design, specification and project management, and the maintenance of building services installations
  • Experience in designing and utilising sustainable and low carbon technologies, such as biomass boiler plants and air/ground source heat pumps
  • Experience of building energy management systems including upgrading and installation/extension of these systems on new projects
